When Adam Levine has some thoughts on music, people tend to listen. After all, Levine has three Grammy’s to his name and we’ve watched as his band Maroon 5 have navigated through the changing music scene with an uncanny ability to make the right moves (like Jagger). In a recent interview with Variety Magazine, Levine talked about the success of Maroon 5’s latest single “Girls Like You” which features hip-hop phenom Cardi B, and went on to state that “All of the innovation and the incredible things happening in music are in hip-hop. It’s better than everything else. Hip-hop is weird and avant-garde and flawed and real, and that’s why people love it.” While it’s a hot take, you would be hard pressed to find a way to dispute Levine’s claim; 71% of the Billboard 100’s Top 10 songs throughout the entire year have been hip-hop.
